scientific seminar entitled: “The Armed Conflict in Sudan: International and Regional Approaches and Prospects for Sustainable Settlement,”

The Libyan Center for International Humanitarian Law organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled: “The Armed Conflict in Sudan: International and Regional Approaches and Prospects for Sustainable Settlement,” with the participation of a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and experts in the fields of international law, international relations, political studies, and security studies. The seminar was held within the framework of the Center’s ongoing monitoring of the rapidly evolving situation in Sudan and its resulting humanitarian, security, and political repercussions affecting both Sudan and neighboring countries.

The seminar aimed to provide an academic and legal platform for discussion on the various dimensions of the Sudanese crisis, to analyze the positions of international and regional actors, and to explore opportunities for sustainable settlement, while emphasizing the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity and sovereignty and respecting the principles of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

Following in-depth scientific discussions, the participants issued several key recommendations, most notably: calling for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire; supporting Sudanese national solutions and inclusive internal dialogue; strengthening respect for international humanitarian law and ensuring accountability for serious violations; and intensifying humanitarian efforts to support those affected by the conflict. Participants also stressed the important role of academic institutions and research centers in supporting peacebuilding efforts, as well as the need to enhance regional and international cooperation in a manner that contributes to the stability of Sudan and the security of the region.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants praised the role played by the Libyan Center for International Humanitarian Law in organizing scientific and intellectual events aimed at promoting academic dialogue and spreading the culture of international humanitarian law and human rights. They also emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to address regional issues with humanitarian and legal dimensions.
